The Denver Nuggets star earned the NBA's Most Valuable Player title in three of the past four years.

Triple National Basketball Association MVP Jokic suffered a "gut-wrenching" knee injury when the Denver Nuggets were defeated 147-123 to the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center was hurt late in the first half in an unintentional collision with teammate Spencer Jones.

Jones landed on the foot of Jokic, and he promptly went down to the floor grabbing his leg.

The star, that is leading the league this season in boards and assists, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to suffering the injury.

He will have an scan on the following day to assess the seriousness of the issue.

"Immediately, Jokic realized he was hurt," commented Denver coach Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Whoever who suffers an injury, that's difficult, especially somebody as special as him. We will know more tomorrow."

"We'll move on together. Obviously, at this moment, I'm more worried about Jokic as a person and the frustration of going through a situation of that nature."
