The Reform UK leader Claims Educators of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues

The political figure stated that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a success at the polls for his party, charging that they are “poisoning our kids” by telling students that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and white children oppressors.

During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, the politician expressed his viewpoint on the UK education system, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “now in control of our education system”.

“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.

“They are corrupting young minds. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is a perpetrator. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They promote this negative culture.”

In response to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these right after taking office.

“Farage has built his political career on dog-whistle politics and now, similar to other figures, he is targeting educators and their unions for a fight,” the union leader said.

“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – push critical race theory as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, including education … and he would be a disaster for education and children.”

The party, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and does not appear to have appointed an education spokesperson.

However, his comments suggested the group would reform the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. And, we can’t do it in six months or a year; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”

He stated that gen Z was more open to critical thinking, but millennials were “absolutely hopeless”.

Paying tribute to a conservative activist, he commented: “All I want education to do to teach critical thinking – to instruct people that there are two points of view and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where views are labeled good or bad. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”

Reform has previously clashed with a major educators’ organization, after the union leader labeled them “far right and racist” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.

The politician has charged Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that young minds be corrupted through education, their thinking tainted regarding national issues” and has argued that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.

Roughly a million individuals work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.

National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for children.

During the American gathering, the Reform leader also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He stated such groups were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I mean this. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of young people to these educational programs. I pledge this now and I’ll do that.”

The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of civil and religious liberty. It offers these excellent programs for no charge to every interested learner.”
