The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.

The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the character of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
