Outrage as Renowned South African DJ Shot Dead in the Heart of Johannesburg.
A popular South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with rampant crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the central business district on Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the 40-year-old entertainer was accosted by three suspects, one of whom shot at him before running away.
The purpose behind the shooting remains unclear and no one has been arrested have taken place, police said.
The Fatal Incident
Law enforcement said that Stock was ambushed as he was departing from a location near the city center landmark.
He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been illegally inhabited by unidentified individuals, it was reported.
"Authorities believe the deceased was approached by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," an official report said.
Surveillance tape showed a individual with dreadlocks and clad in what appeared to be a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was wounded but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the incident.
