Manchester United Poised to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. According to reports, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
