US air traffic controllers are increasingly seeking additional employment and reporting ill, as they continue to work without pay amid the federal closure, the transport chief has announced.

"The controllers are wearing thin," the official informed Fox News on Sunday, as certain aircraft were halted on the Californian coast due to personnel deficits.

Following the government shut down on October 1st, flight controllers, who are deemed critical staff, were instructed to keep doing their duties uncompensated.

But a number have been missing, causing terminals to stop or slow their plane traffic, which has added to delays caused by climate and additional factors.

More than 3,000 American flights were delayed on the weekend, and the secretary stated he expects the circumstances to grow worse.

"I observe the pressure," Duffy said in an discussion on Sunday Morning Futures, noting that he had spoken to multiple professionals to hear their concerns firsthand.

"They're taking side jobs, they're out there looking, 'Should I work for Uber, can I secure another source of income to make ends meet?'" he added.

Duffy further mentioned that on the previous day 22 alerts at airports said travel would be held up due to a shortage of employees - one of the highest since the shutdown began.

The American federal closure entered its twenty-sixth day on Sunday, rendering it the second-longest halt in the past.

Duffy has repeatedly warned that flight authorities would reduce the quantity of aircraft in the sky if there is a shortage of safety personnel.

In his conversation, he would not answer straightforwardly when questioned if it was secure to travel by air in the United States, and instead made a direct appeal to controllers.

"I need my staff concentrating on the airspace, not on the monetary matters at home," the official said.

On that day, some planes were grounded at Los Angeles International Airport due to employee deficits, causing interruption at the fifth most active airport in the nation and among the most crowded in the world, as well as additional travel stretching upward to the metropolis of Oakland, California.

The Federal Aviation Administration notice was issued at 8:45 AM local time on Sunday. Numerous trips were operating normally before noon.

Travel at Newark Liberty International Airport, however, were delayed an average of over an hour due to staffing shortages, and the authority said DFW, the second-busiest airfield in the country, could experience difficulties from low staffing in the afternoon.

The agency warned passengers in California to consult carriers about updated departure times.

The issue precedes the third match of the championship, which is scheduled in LA on Monday evening, and about one month prior to the Thanksgiving break, among the peak periods to fly in the United States.

Strain on US air travel contributed to ending a federal closure in two thousand nineteen. At the time, the halt had entered its fifth week and affected flight services, including pilot training.
